About Matthew Bills

I have been in the hobby for as long as I can remember. My first fond memory is of a Lionhead Oranda my father got me. I had that fish until I was thirteen years old his name was Captain Kangaroo. My father kept and bred swordtails, mollies and other livebearers. As an engineer he was methodical in his breeding and maintenance. I kept fish sporadically throughout next decade but nothing serious. I got back into the hobby when I moved to Raleigh. Being in an apartment has limitations so could not dive in. Six years ago, I got married and we purchased a home in Wendell. I started to get back into breeding at that point. Three years ago, we had Finn are first son and needed a bigger house. You never realize how much goes with babies until you can’t walk in a room. We built a new home in Wendell and I began collecting tank as my wife states. It was at this time I learned about RAS via Facebook. I was so happy to have found the group as I have learned so much in a short time. By the time of my second son miles I was up to 30 tanks two years ago. I like to involve my sons in the hobby as much as possible. I hope they will have as found memories as I do with my father. I built my first fish room in the front bedroom. I soon realized I needed more room and undertook a new project. I have been converting my garage into my dream fish room. I spent many months planning out the design and function. With the garage nearing completion, I will be at 60+ tanks specializing in breeding wild bettas.
